The first one-volume illustrated portrayal of the Guards regiments’ contribution to the First World War, and published in 2016 to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Battle of the Somme, this book is filled with carefully researched and previously unpublished photographs of soldiers and officers from the beginning, in 1914, right up to the armistice of 1918.
With archive documents and detailed accounts from the time, along with newly-commissioned photography from the Guards Museum, this was a book that needed to be carefully thought out in its approach – it is, in effect, a memorial to those who ‘… gave their lives for their King and Country during the Great War 1914–1918 … in the fight for the World’s Freedom.’
