Having previously worked with RMAS on the first edition nearly ten years ago, it was great to be able to get the chance to update the second edition with newly commissioned photography, additional archive images and lots of new and revised text.
One of the biggest challenges was keeping the pages that weren’t changing exactly the same, after many of the original design and image files were lost. The entire book was scanned and digitally enhanced to reduce any dot gain issues, while the design files were recreated from scratch. New images were added alongside the scanned originals and the results are, to the untrained eye, remarkably seamless.
The book is completed with a subtle but powerful red dust jacket, matching ribbons worn in hats by officers at the Academy, along with gold foil lettering and a matt laminate finish.
